I have always been captivated by deer, they are such mystical and beautiful creatures, and I wanted to create a photograph that reflected that.
I considered several locations, including Richmond Park, but decided on my home-county of Suffolk — it’s a place I know well, and that is always helpful.
I found the thicket of woodland and knew immediately that it would make a perfect backdrop for my photographic fairytale, I just needed the fallow deer to move into position, and the light to illuminate the scene.
I counted the frames that came before this one and there are 43... which means this was the 44th attempt, but finally my vision turned into a real-life fairytale. The image smells of the Suffolk countryside, and I love it.
